“Moonlight” star Trevante Rhodes continues to add to his to-do list thanks to the success of the Barry Jenkins drama that’s become an Oscar front-runner in multiple categories this year.

The actor previously joined the cast of super producer Jerry Bruckheimer’s Afghanistan War drama, “Horse Soldiers,” which is based on a book by Doug Stanton and follows a U.S. Special Forces team and their captain after they are dispatched to a mountainous region of Afghanistan in the weeks immediately following 9/11, in order to fight to drive out the Taliban.

Rhodes is a member of a cast for “Horse Soldiers” that includes Chris Hemsworth, Michael Shannon, and Michael Pena.

Announced today, Rhodes has also joined the cast of director Shane Black’s “The Predator” – the latest installment in the sci-fi/action franchise set up at 20th Century Fox. The actor will play an ex-marine and special forces soldier who is also friend to the film’s leading man played by Boyd Holbrook.

The story for what will be the fourth standalone film in the series (not counting two “Alien v. Predator” movies) is being kept underwraps, although director Shane Black says it’s not a reboot, but an “inventive sequel” and will be set in the suburbs this time around.

It’s yet another high-profile project casting for Rhodes, who continues to draw acclaim for his performance in Barry Jenkins’ “Moonlight.”

The Hollywood Reporter was first to report Rhodes’ casting in “The Predator.”
