D’Angelo’s son is showing that musicality runs in the family.

His son, Swayvo Twain, a rapper, released his own version of his soul singer’s 1995 song “S**t, D**n, Motherf****r.”

The song was featured on D’Angelo’s debut album Brown Sugar. Twain made the announcement in an Instagram post on Feb. 13. His version is more hip-hop infused. He polled his followers, asking them to choose which version they like the most, his or his father’s. “WHICH ONE YAL ROCKING WITH THE MOST AND WHY?” Twain asked in the caption. “COMMENT YOUR ANSWER BELOW.”

On remaking his father’s song, Twain told Rolling Out (as reported by Vibe), “I kinda was trying to take the fact of it being my dad out of the equation, and just really take what I got given to me and make something out of it, and I know I wanted to flip it. The baseline is crazy so I wanted to flip it to a club anthem. I took a classic and made something new so I definitely want people to see my musical mind.”

Twain is the son of D’Angelo and R&B singer Angie Stone.

Stone, who starred in the hit TV One reality series R&B Divas, has been open about her lifelong love for her ex. Despite their split, Stone says no man or relationship has ever measured up to D’Angelo.

She says their relationship was marred with hateful comments from the public and pressure from music executives because of her size.

“By the time ‘No More Rain’ came out, I was 230 pounds. And then I was in love with a sex symbol, and he was fine, and everybody was looking like, ‘How did she get he?’” she said, per Madame Noire. “What they didn’t realize is he had seen me smaller. So he knew also the steroid issue. I wasn’t being loved or judged by my weight. It was the inner spirit that they were in love with….[I] will always love. He is the greatest love she’s had, in fact. When you’ve experienced true love, real love, it never dies,” she added. “Even though you go your separate ways and life goes on for everyone and you take different paths, you never ever forget the purest of love. That was a genuine love that no one has ever been able to compete with.”

Twain released “TwainFlow” in November 2022, which was his first single since the Dec. 2021 release, “Dive In.”
