Amazon Studios has released the first trailer for Foe, which stars Saoirse Ronan, Paul Mescal and Aaron Pierre.

The film comes to theaters in the U.S. on Oct. 6.

The official synopsis of Foe:

Academy Award nominees Saoirse Ronan and Paul Mescal star in Foe, a haunting exploration of marriage and identity set in an uncertain world. Hen and Junior farm a secluded piece of land that has been in Junior’s family for generations, but their quiet life is thrown into turmoil when an uninvited stranger (Aaron Pierre) shows up at their door with a startling proposal.

The film is based on Iain Reid’s novel. It is directed by Garth Davis, with the screenplay written by Iain Reid and Davis.

It is produced by Kerry Kohansky-Roberts, Davis, Emile Sherman, and Iain Canning and is executive produced by Dawn Olmstead, David Levine, Robert Walak, Samantha Lang and Reid.

In October, Scout Press in the United States and Simon & Schuster in Canada will both issue new copies of the book with the Amazon Studios movie cover.

Iain Reid also wrote three additional books, including  I’m Thinking of Ending Things, which was made into a movie by Charlie Kaufman.

Pierre has appeared in Barry Jenkins’ critically acclaimed series The Underground Railroad, as well as the M. Night Shyamalan thriller Old. He has also been cast in Marvel Studios’s upcoming Blade movie.
