Tonjé BakangA day after announcing that the blossoming SVOD platform inked a multi-year deal with USA-based Sony Pictures Television to distribute 55 movies and 3 TV series on its streaming platform, AFROSTREAM has now also made a somewhat similar move with another Hollywood studio giant in Viacom.

nullA couple of weeks ago, I mentioned on this blog that BET will launch a 24-hour channel and multiscreen service in France, starting on November 17th, 2015. Called BET France, the new 24-hour channel and multiscreen service (which is also on the hunt for new French talent to become the faces of BET France) has established a content partnership as well as an editorial collaboration with and AFROSTREAM, the SVOD service offering the best of African American, Afro-Caribbean and African series and movies to a French

speaking audience.

Specifically, AFROSTREAM will distribute the following BET France content on its platform within France:

– The BET France 24-hour live feed

– The 7 day catch-up of BET original content

– A selection of BET France content from the BET France SVOD offering

In addition, the strategic partnership also includes a promotional plan that will allow

AFROSTREAM to increase awareness for its brand throughout France, via BET France’s 18 million households reach, thanks to IPTV, Cable and Satellite (including OTT operators).

And also AFROSTREAM and BET France will collaborate on content via:

– A coordinated content pipeline

– The development of French co-productions

– Tonjé Bakang, will also serve as an editorial advisor to BET France

“I’m glad to be forging a strategic partnership with AFROSTREAM and its founder, Tonjé Bakang," Michael Armstrong, Executive Vice President and General Manager, International Brand Development, Viacom International Media Networks commented, said. "Our collaboration will enable us to cater to the Black audience in France, which has long been underrepresented on television. While BET France will feature Black content from the US, this partnership will allow us to begin developing locally relevant content as well."

Tonjé Bakang (photo above), CEO and founder of AFROSTREAM, added, “We are always looking to offer our subscribers premium series and shows. BET France will carry premium quality content and we are proud to distribute it to a French speaking audience eager to discover exceptional African-American programming.”

Afrostream is also part of Y Combinator, the well-known Silicon Valley start-ups accelerator, and has a partnership with MYTF1VOD, the VOD service of TF1, Europe’s largest TV channel.

Subscription packages range from $8 per month to $68 per year, with premium content available in both their original versions, or with French subtitles.
