Storm Reid Storm Reid Ava DuVernay's film adaptation of "A Wrinkle In Time," set up at Disney, has found its lead: Storm Reid ("12 Years a Slave"). The science/fantasy novel by Madeleine L'Engle, first published in 1963, revolves around a young girl whose father, a government scientist, has gone missing after working on a mysterious project called a tesseract. Three celestial beings guide her, her brother, and her friend to space in order to find him. Joining Reid in front of the camera as the 3 celestial being s are Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling. Said director Ava DuVernay, "After an extensive search that spanned multiple dimensions, we're overjoyed to welcome Storm Reid to 'A Wrinkle in Time' as our beloved "Meg." Storm is a tremendously talented young actress who embodies the hopes, dreams and spirit of a character much loved by audiences worldwide for generations. I can't wait to work with Storm as we chronicle Meg's epic quest, alongside Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling as Mrs. Which, Mrs. Whatsit and Mrs. Who. Tesser well!" "A Wrinkle in Time" is the first in a trilogy of novels by author Madeleine L'Engle, so this could be just the first of 3 films in a franchise. If you've read the novel(s), I'd love to read your reactions. I picked up a copy of "A Wrinkle in Time" after it was announced that DuVernay would direct it, but my to-read stack of books is tall, and I haven't gotten to it yet. But I'm sure I will before the film becomes a reality. If you'd like to own a copy, click here. DuVernay is directing from a script penned by Oscar-winning writer Jennifer Lee. Jim Whitaker and Catherine Hand are producing the film, which will begin production later this year. This is most certainly a casting coup for the young Ms. Storm Reid. Her first theatrical film role was in the Academy Award-winning "12 Years a Slave," where she played Emily, and she has also appeared in "American Girl: Lea to the Rescue," and "Sleight," which premiered at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival. Most recently, she shot a starring role in Judy Greer's directorial debut "A Happening of Monumental Proportions" (due out in 2017), alongside Allison Janney, Common and Bradley Whitford. She is represented by Stella Alex from the Savage Agency, Principato-Young Entertainment, and Felker Toczek Suddleson Abramson.
