Wakanda Forever: 'Black Panther' Soundtrack Leads 2019 Grammy Nominations

December 07 2018
Black Panther continues to defy the odds and break records. This time, it's in the music arena with the film's Album of the Year nomination for the 2019 Grammys. This is only the third soundtrack to gain an Album of the Year nomination in the past 25 years, as The Hollywood Reporter states. The Kendrick Lamar-curated soundtrack Black Panther The Album Music from and Inspired By has several nods apart from Best Album, with eight overall, leading all nominations. The soundtrack has earned nominations for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Rap/Sung Performance and Best Song Written for Visual Media for Lamar and SZA's "All the Stars." "King's Dead," featuring Lamar, Jay Rock, Future and James Blake, has been nominated for Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song. The soundtrack is also up for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the other two soundtracks to earn Album of the Year nominations include Waiting to Exhale and O Brother, Where Art Thou?. The Babyface-produced Waiting to Exhale includes songs from Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, SWV, Faith Evans, Mary J. Blige, Toni Braxton, Patti LaBelle, TLC and Brandy. O Brother, Where Art Thou? includes Appalachian-style country and folk music and the breakout song "I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow." The Grammys will air February 10 on CBS.
