AMC Theatres and 20th Century Fox are giving kids across the country the chance to see The Hate U Give.

The Hollywood Reporter states that the theater chain and studio initially offered free screenings for children in major metropolitan areas such as Miami, Atlanta, Baltimore, Dallas, New York and Washington, D.C. But now they are adding 50 more free screenings for children throughout the United States. Schools, nonprofits and community organizations are encouraged to apply at screenings.thehateugive.com by October 22, with the winners announced by October 31.

The film has already started conversations on police brutality and systemic violence in America, and Fox and AMC hope to keep the conversation going. The report quotes the press release in saying that Fox and AMC want the film to act as a “tool for driving empowerment, empathy and dialogue,” and the free screenings are part of their initiative to “amplify the film’s call for youth to find their voice and change the world.”

The Hate U Give, based on the New York Times’ best-selling novel by Angie Thomas, stars Amandla Stenberg as a young girl who witnesses her best friend get killed by police. The act forces her to rise as an activist for social change. The film, which also stars Russell Hornsby, Regina Hall and Issa Rae, is in theaters now.
