"21 Jump Street" Production Wrapped; Hill Announces Release Date

Jonah Hill announced via Tweeter over the weekend that his big-screen adaptation of the popular late 1980s/early ’90s TV cop drama 21 Jump Street, has officially wrapped principal photography, and will hit theaters on March 16, 2012.

The film stars, in addition to Hill (who also wrote the screenplay), Comedian DeRay Davis, Channing Tatum,, Brie Larson and Ice Cube, and is being directed by the tag-team of Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs).

Ice Cube plays the Captain role, which was Steven Williams’ in the original TV series; Mr DeRay Davis will play a character named Domingo, a tattooed leader of a biker gang that doubles as a drug ring. Johnny Depp and Holly Robinson Peete are expected to make cameo appearances.

To be frank, I have very little interest in this movie adaptation, and I’m not at all expecting it to be very good. Thus far, I haven’t found much to be excited about, not the cast, nor the crew, despite Jonah Hill’s claims that it will be “an R-rated, insane, ‘Bad-Boys’-meets-John Hughes-type movie.”

I’d recommend you see 21 Hump Street instead, though I haven’t 😉
