As usual… These aren’t necessarily recommendations. Consider the list more of an FYI – films we’ve talked about on this site, at one time or another, that are now streaming on Netflix, that you might want to check out for yourselves.
Without further ado, here’s this week’s list of 5:
1 – Since we now know that John Luther (played by Idris Elba) – the near-genius, emotionally-impulsive detective tormented by humanity’s darker side – will be back on our TV screens next month (in the UK), and on September 3, at 10pm/9c (here in the USA), as part of its Dramaville hour, why not “binge-watch” a la Netflix, the first 2 seasons before season 3 arrives – especially if you haven’t seen any of the series; here’s your chance to catch-up. And even if you have, maybe a revisit won’t be such a bad idea. I actually plan to do that soon for a piece I’m working on to publish here.

2 – His new concert movie, Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain, hits theaters in about 2 weeks, after it world premieres at the American Black Film Festival next weekend (June 22).
Ahead of its release, you might be interested in checking out his last concert movie, which set the box office on fire (for a film of its ilk), grossing some $7 million.
Kevin Hart’s 2010, 90-city concert tour film, titled Kevin Hart: Laugh at My Pain, documents Hart’s 2-day performance at the Nokia Theatre in L.A., raw and uncut, and includes backstage footage, as well as a trip back to Philadelphia, where Hart’s roots lie.
It’s streaming on Netflix now.

3 – Directed by Rob Reiner, The Magic Of Belle Isle stars Morgan Freeman as Monte Wildhorn a famous Western novelist whose struggle with alcoholism has sapped his passion for writing. He takes a lakeside cabin for the summer in picturesque Belle Isle, and befriends the family next door including a single mother (Virginia Madsen) and her young daughters who help him find inspiration again.
The film co-stars Kenan Thompson, Fred Willard and Madeline Carroll.

4 – The Snoop Dogg documentary Reincarnated, which follows Snoop Dogg as he journeys to Jamaica to record an album, and while there, finds himself embraced by Jamaicans, is positively impacted by Rastafarian culture, and becomes reincarnated as Snoop Lion.
That is if you can believe all of that…

5 – And finally, another documentary – this one called Pressure Cooker, which follows 3 seniors at Philadelphia’s Frankford High School who find an unlikely champion in the kitchen of Wilma Stephenson, a legend in the school system, thanks to her hilariously blunt, and successful boot-camp method of teaching Culinary Arts. Against the backdrop of the row homes of working-class Philadelphia, she has helped countless students reach the top culinary schools in the country. And under her fierce direction, the usual distractions of high school are swept aside as Erica, Dudley and Fatoumata prepare to achieve more than anyone else expects from them.
As I recall, it’s something of a crowd-pleaser.
