50 Cent And The 'Power' Crew Talk Project's Genesis: “Rappers Are Great Storytellers”


In the video below, speaking to MIPCOM 2012 (the international TV and entertainment market held in Cannes once every year; where TV content is introduced for co-producing, buying, selling, financing and distributing)… STARZ Original drama Power executive producer Curtis50 CentJacksonexecutive producer Mark Canton; showrunner Courtney Kemp Agboh; and actor Omari Hardwick. Jackson explained the origins of the upcoming series: “We started developing characters, then I began writing music for them; we’d send it over to (Courtney) so she could be inspired… so it evolved and changed quite a lot.” 

“Rappers like 50 are great storytellers,” added Kemp Agboh. “I’d listen to the music he’d made whilst I was writing. The development process takes a long time, so what the show was at first is not what the show is now.”

Jackson will also act in the series in a recurring role, with star Omari Hardwick playing JamesGhost St. Patrick’s, a wealthy New York City nightclub owner, who caters to the city’s elite. He wants to build an empire, turn the club into a Fortune 500 business, but there’s just one problem: he is living a double life. When he is not in the club, he is the kingpin of the most lucrative drug network in New York for a very high-level clientele. His marriage, family and business all become unknowingly threatened as he is tempted to leave his criminal life behind and become the rags-to-riches businessman he wants to be most of all.

Hardwick is joined by Naturi Naughton as Tasha St. Patrick, wife, confidant and willing accomplice to James; Joseph Sikora as Tommy Egan, childhood best friend and business partner to “Ghost” and Lela Loren plays Angela Valdes, an old flame of James’s who unexpectedly reenters his life.

Rounding out the cast are Andy Bean, Sinqua WallsAdam HussGreg SeranoLucy WaltersKathrine NarducciLuis Antonio RamosLa La AnthonyElizabeth Röhm, J.R. Ramirez and Debbi Morgan.

The series is created by Courtney Kemp Agboh (The Good Wife), who will serve as executive producer and show-runner. Mark Canton, Randall Emmett, and David Knoller also serve as executive producers. The series is being produced in association with CBS Television Studios.
