The fifth annual Brazilian Film Festival of London is set

and raring to go, starting at the end on the month, on Sept. 27th, and continuing through

Oct. 3.

Some 13 feature films and 12 short films will be screened

at the festival, all of which are UK premieres.

Among the highlights for this year’s festival are Rio 2096, A Story of Love and Fury (Dir. Luiz Bolognesi) an animation

feature in which the lead character lives through the most radical moments in

Brazilian history, spanning 600 years, and Jango

Report, by director Paulo Henrique

Fontenele, which takes a historical look at one of Brazil’s most left wing

former presidents, João Goulart’s

time in exile.

The festival’s closing night film will be Brazilian Western, from director Rene Sampaio, which is described as “a story

of love, hate and revenge based on the famed song Faroeste Caboclo by musician

Renato Russo, one of Brazil’s most important punk rock artists.

The film was a recent box office hit in Brazil, and also

recently shown at the Toronto International

Film Festival. Both the Sampaio and lead actor Fabricio Boliveira (pictured above-left) will be attending the festival.

In in addition to the films, there will be, for the first

time, a food event called Brazilian Taste, described as a sumptuous ‘taste’ festival where the public will be able to experience Brazil-inspired dishes at a selection of partnering restaurants across London.

Tickets are available now at the Odeon Covent Garden.
