Don't get too worked up (or excited) however, because it looks like it'll be a direct-to-video project.

Why do I say that? Because, according to the production information sheet I have in front of me, it's a Warner Premiere property. And for those who may not know, Warner Premiere was the direct-to-video label for Warner Home Video, which is the home video unit for Warner Bros. I say it "was" because, earlier this month, August 13th, Warner Bros. announced that it was shutting down Warner Premiere, thanks to overall lagging DVD sales.

However, even though the label is defunct, Warner said that it would continue and complete production on its remaining film and digital series projects into the fall.

And with a shoot start date listed for September 24th, this House Party five-quel, seems to be timed for production. 

Titled House Party: Tonight's The Night, I should note that the Hudlin Brothers aren't attached to this in any way that I can see, based on the info I have. Instead, Doug McHenry, who produced the second House Party movie, and exec produced the third, is listed as producer of this potential 5th movie. 

Darin Scott is listed as director; a writer and producer as well, some of his credits include The Brothers (producer), Tales From The Hood (producer, writer), Waist Deep (writer), Menace II Society (producer). 

And Don D. Scott, who penned scripts for Barbershop 1 & 2, is the writer on House Party: Tonight's The Night. 

So we're talking veterans here; this isn't a newbie collaboration. McHenry's credits go back to Krush Groove in 1985, which he produced.

I have no info on casting; the project isn't even listed on IMDB yet.

Its synopsis reads:

Chris decides to dream big, take a risk and host a heck of a house party. With his parents away, he feels he's got things under control. He couldn't be more wrong.

That's all I've got. There's more to the story than that, I'm sure.

Interestingly, the shooting location is listed as South Africa. It doesn't say exactly where in South Africa. So I suppose we can assume that this was a budget decision, as there are likely incentives for shooting in South Africa, which will probably be doubling for somewhere in the USA, wherever the story takes place. Unless South Africa is indeed the story's setting.

We'll see. You'll know more when I know more.

Although, for all I know, it could be a dead project now, with Warner Premiere folding. 

There have been 4 House Party movies since the first one in 1990; it's worth noting that the last one was a 2001 direct-to-video movie titled House Party 4: Down to the Last Minute, and starred Immature.

This one is/was likely headed down that same path.
