“A Happening of Monumental Proportions”

Common stars in director Judy Greer’s upcoming dramedy “A Happening of Monumental Proportions,” which just won the Audience Award for Best Spotlight Film a the 2017 Bentonville Film Festival on Sunday, May 7th.

Greer’s feature directorial debut (she’s an actress primarily), the film’s official synopsis reads: The discovery of a dead body at an unassuming elementary school derails what was supposed to be an uneventful Career Day. As a pair of clunky administrators attempts to hide the corpse, school-parent and recent widower, Daniel Crawford (Common), heads to work only to find himself at the center of an office conspiracy: Someone’s sabotaged the office coffee machine, and the under-caffeinated management is thirsty for blood. A few meetings (and several lies) later, Daniel’s asshole-of-a-boss turns him into a scapegoat and terminates his employment. Daniel finds himself heading to his daughter’s career day to speak about a job he no longer has. What follows is mayhem. Punches are thrown; suicides are pondered, and scandalous affairs are brought to light. By the end of the day, Daniel–along with a motley crew of characters–finds catharsis and begins to confront the grief that’s crippled him since the loss of his wife.

Starring Common as Daniel, he’s surrounded by a supporting cast that includes Bradley Whitford, Allison Janney, Anders Holm, Rob Riggle, John Cho, Storm Reid, Marcus Eckert, Katie Holmes, Nat Faxon and Jennifer Garner.

“A Happening of Monumental Proportions” premiered at the 2017 Bentonville Film Festival, which ended just yesterday, May 7th. It doesn’t  yet have a USA distributor, and will likely continue to travel the film festival circuit.

But an intriguing role for Common here, who rarely is seen as a lead, carrying a film – especially in a comedy-drama.

No trailer or much other media at this time, except for a first clip from the film which is embedded below:
