Steps is still alive at ABC.

According to Nellie Andreeva at Deadline, ABC Studios has picked the options for the entire cast of the show, which includes Ryan Michelle Bathe and Cameron Boyce.

After being initially passed on, Andreeva earlier stated that the show was back in contention at the network as its schedule freed up since Roseanne was canceled. However, since Roseanne’s cancellation, the network has picked up a spinoff of the show, The Connors. Despite the pickup of the latter, it looks as ABC is still looking at Steps, presumably for midseason.

Deadline intel also revealed earlier that the show was passed on the first time because of its close similarity to Single Parents, a comedy that was picked up to series. Steps centers on four adults in three houses raising three kids after two divorces — together. Ginnfer Goodwin, Kyle Bornheimer, Barry Rothbart and Julie Hagerty also star.

Because of the similarities to Single Parents, the pilot may be retooled so there will be no overlap.

This is the second ABC pilot this season to remain in contention and have cast options extended. The Bellamy Young and Vanessa Williams-led dramedy False Pilots also had options extended, as well as the authorization to open a writers room and three additional scripts.

Ryan Michelle Bathe, who is married to This Is Us star Sterling K. Brown, is most known for her stints on Boston Legal and Army Wives. Boyce is most known for his roles on the Disney Channel series Jessie and the Disney Channel’s TV movie franchise Descendants.
