We’re getting closer and closer to a final list of 5.

The Academy has unveiled the shortlist of 15 feature documentaries – from an initial list of 145 that were submitted for consideration in the Documentary Feature category for the 2017 Academy Awards.

Documentary branch members will now vote for the 5 finalists that will be the nominees for the year, which will be announced (along with all the other categories) on January 24, 2017.

Of note, given this blog’s focus, Raoul Peck’s “I Am Not Your Negro,” co-directors Kief Davidson and Richard Ladkani’s “The Ivory Game,” Ezra Edelman’s “O.J.: Made in America,” Ava DuVernay’s “13th,” and Roger Ross Williams’ “Life, Animated” made the shortlist of 15 films.

I’m sure at least one of these 5 will make the final list of nominees. Find out in just over a month…
