Come through, animated Black girl magic!

Doc McStuffins‘ Chris Nee is bringing another Black girl role model to television with Netflix’s new animated series, Ada Twist, Scientist. The series is executive produced in part by Higher Ground, the production company created by President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama.

Netflix has released the first trailer for Ada Twist, Scientist, which will debut on the streaming service Sept. 28. An episode from the first season is currently airing on the Netflix Jr YouTube account.

Based on the picture book series written by Andrea Beaty and illustrated by David Roberts, the series follows Ada Twist, a young scientist who has a passion for learning. According to the official description:

Ada Twist, Scientist follows the adventures of eight-year-old Ada Twist, a pint-sized scientist with a giant-sized curiosity, who aspires to discover the truth about absolutely everything. With the help of her two best friends, Rosie Revere and Iggy Peck, Ada unravels and solves mysteries for her friends and family. But solving the mystery is only the beginning, because science isn’t just about learning how and why and what… it’s about putting that knowledge into action to make the world a better place.

The series’ voice actors includes Amanda Christine as Ada Twist, Susan Kelechi Watson as Mom Twist, Taye Diggs as Dad Twist, Candace Kozak as Rosie Revere, Nicholas Crovetta as Iggy Peck, and Terrence Little Gardenhigh as Arthur Twist.

Executive producers include Nee, Mark Burton, and Higher Ground’s Tonia Davis Priya Swaminathan. Beaty and Roberts are also listed as executive producers. Kerri Grant will serve as co-executive producer and showrunner.
