Renee Elise Goldsberry will also be leaving the smash Broadway musical “Hamilton” this year (for which she won a Tony Award), and will leap from the distant past into the future for her new role in Netflix’s upcoming sci-fi drama series “Altered Carbon.”

Her “Hamilton” exit date hasn’t been announced yet, although it’s expected to happen later this year.

“Altered Carbon,” which is based on the Richard Mogan novel of the same name, is set in a future world where the mind can be digitized and transferred from one human being to another.

Goldsberry has signed up to play Quellcrist Falconer, a leader of the revolution against the established order known as the United Nations Protectorate, which now controls a number of inhabited planets. Described as a master strategist, she’s also the love interest of Takeshi Kovacs (to be played by the previously-cast Joel Kinnaman), a warrior who – after being imprisoned for 500 years – is placed into the very future he fought to prevent.

In addition to her extensive acclaimed work on Broadway, Goldsberry also boasts an impressive on screen resumé, which includes roles and appearances on hit TV series like “The Good Wife,” “Law & Order: SVU,” “The Following,” “Masters of Sex” and many other shows.
