After news first surfaced last month, Shadow and Act has learned that the network is indeed in development on a spinoff of fan-favorite series All American.

The logline describes the potential series as “a young adult sports drama set against the backdrop of the HBCU experience. From the executive producers of ALL AMERICAN, the show follows a young tennis hopeful from Beverly Hills and an elite baseball player from Chicago as they contend with the high stakes of college sports, while also navigating the highs, lows and sexiness of unsupervised early adulthood at a prestigious Historically Black College.”

All American showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll would write and executive produce the spinoff as well. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, David Madden, Robbie Rogers executive produce. Michael Schultz will direct the backdoor pilot.

The tennis hopeful is presumed to be Simone Hicks (Maya), who was first introduced in the second season of the show and in the third season, she begins her senior year at Beverly and is the girlfriend of Jordan Baker. When she was introduced, she convinced Jordan (Michael Evans Behling) that he was the father of her unborn child due to issues with her own parents. After the lie was revealed, Simone and Jordan got past it and became a couple. In the recently-premiered season 3 premiere, Simone gave her baby up for adoption.

All American notably gained a new life and a cult-like following when it hit Netflix following the in-season run of its first season on Netflix. This spinoff is the latest attempt to build out universes of shows on the network like it has done with Riverdale, Nancy Drew and the Arrow-verse.
