'All American' Renewed For Season 2 At The CW As Network Officially Brings Back Its Entire Slate From This Season

April 24th 2019

All American has been renewed for season 2 at The CW. The network also renewed freshman entries Roswell, New Mexico and In the Dark, as well as The 100. Joining the 10 series that were renewed in the fall, this means the network will bring back a record fourteen shows.  It is the first time The CW has renewed all of its shows.

The fate of All American has been up in the air for a while now. After just garnering middling ratings on The CW (which were not that far from most of the network's programming) the network president said they were waiting to see how it performs on Netflix. It was the only series from the network that premiered during the fall that didn't get renewed in the first batch. After its speedy Netflix premiere (due to the Netflix/WBTV deal), the show garnered tons of new fans and a cult following.

Shows renewed earlier in the season include Riverdale, Black Lightning and Charmed.  “As we begin to plan for the 2019-2020 season, we’re thrilled to have this roster of 14 exceptionally creative and distinctive series, including all five first-year shows, as the foundation on which to continue to build the multiplatform future of The CW,” said network president Pedowitz in a statement. “One of our key long-term goals has been to continually add more original programming all year round, especially in midseason and summer, and with these returning shows and the new series we’ll order as we get closer to the May upfront, next season on The CW is shaping up to be our most robust year-round schedule yet.”

The official description of All American reads: Spencer James is a rising high school football player and an A student at South Crenshaw High. Compton is the place he calls home. But when Beverly High School's football coach Billy Baker recruits him to join his team in Beverly Hills, Spencer's mother, Grace, and his best friend, Coop, convince Spencer it's an opportunity he has to seize. Now Spencer must navigate two worlds, the south side neighborhood that he knows and the affluent Beverly Hills world that has offered him an opportunity for something bigger.

Inspired by the life of NFL player Spencer Paysinger, the series stars Daniel Ezra, Taye Diggs, Samantha Logan, Bre-Z, Greta Onieogou, Monet Mazur, Michael Evans Behling, Cody Christian, and Karimah Westbrook.
