Just mere months after she was tapped as a full-time co-host of the show, Amanda Seales is leaving The Real.
She revealed the news in an Instagram live discussion with Hamiton star Brandon Victor Dixon. Seales says that her contract was up and that she decided to not renew it.
As for why she’s leaving, Seales cites issues with the show’s environment and handling of issues related to Black people. She said in part, “[The Real is] a place where I cannot speak to my people the way they need to be spoken to, and where the people who are speaking to me in disparaging ways are not being handled. I’m not in a space where I can, as a full Black woman, have my voice and my co-workers also have their voices and where the people at the top are not respecting the necessity for Black voices to be at the top too.”
“So you reach a point — even when it just comes to Hollywood in general. You’ve seen me transform into a way where I just can’t function at this place the same way,” she continued. “They’re planting white beans in my soil.”
Seales, who currently stars on HBO’s Insecure, joined the panel in January 2020. The other co-hosts are Loni Love, Tamera Mowry-Housley, Adrienne Bailon and Jeannie Mai. She was the first full-time co-host to be added since Tamar Braxton was fired from the show.
