If it’s something you’ve been hoping for, this may be as close as you’ll get to see Bill Cosby on trial in a courtroom.
In April, Amy Schumer shared that she would tackle the rape allegations against Cosby on her show, "Inside Amy Schumer." Last night, she did just that.
In the sketch (embedded below), definitely not one to shy away from the controversial, boldly going where most wouldn’t dare, Schumer plays Cosby’s defense attorney in a mock trial for the embattled comedian, presenting a faux defense that hits squarely on reasons why many may be reluctant to believe the allegations against him.
She even brings out pudding pops, and Cosby sweaters for the jury, in case any of then still needs to be convinced of his "innocence."
"Did anyone feel raped by that?" Schumer asks, after showing a clip from "The Cosby Show."
"How about drugged? Nope. Me neither. I felt comforted by a familiar father figure."
"Let’s remind ourselves what’s at stake here," Schumer says in her closing argument. "If convicted, the next time you put in a rerun of The Cosby Show you may wince a little. You might feel al little pang and none of us deserve that. We don’t deserve to feel that pang. We deserve to dance like no one’s watching and watch like no one’s raping."
I expect reception of this will be mixed, to put it lightly, given how divided the public is on Cosby’s guilt or innocence, and a *think* piece or 5 might be written about it:
