The “Mission: Impossible” movie franchise starring Tom Cruise continues with an upcoming 6th installment, currently titled simply “Mission Impossible 6,” which will be directed by Christopher McQuarrie from his own script, with J. J. Abrams, Bryan Burk, Tom Cruise, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger all producing.

Joining Cruise will be returning stars Rebecca Ferguson, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Alec Baldwin and Sean Harris who will all reprise their roles from previous films.

New cast additions previously announced include Henry Cavill, Vanessa Kirby and Sian Brooke.

And joining the newbies, announced today, will be Angela Bassett who has signed up to play the C.I.A. director. No word on how involved her role will be in the overall story.

The Paramount Pictures project is set to be released on July 27, 2018 in 3D, IMAX and IMAX 3D.

Earlier this week, we announced that Bassett had reunited with her “American Horror Story” creator Ryan Muurphy for a Fox TV series on first responders titled “9-1-1” which is set to premiere on the network in 2018.

Deadline was first to report the news of Bassett’s joining the “Mission Impossible 6” cast.
