You might recall the feature documentary on the lives of Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee we highlighted the Kickstarter campaign for ($53,000 was raised successfully), directed by their grandson, Muta'Ali Muhammad.

Titled Life’s Essentials with Ruby Dee, and described as "a documentary style film about Love, art and activism," the film will tell the life and love story of Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee, for the first time, incorporating candid and revealing conversations and much more.

So it'll be a night celebrating her 90th birthday, with lots of black celebs, which will include a 30-minute preview of the above film.

THE FILM LIFE’S ESSENTIALS WITH RUBY DEE HONORS THE LIFE AND LOVE STORY OF RUBY DEE & OSSIE DAVIS

New York, NY – October 25, 2012 – Announced today, acclaimed actress, Angela Bassett along with Susan L. Taylor, Editor-in-Chief, Emeritus and Founder of National Cares Mentoring Movement, will host the upcoming screening and celebration of Ruby Dee’s 90th Birthday. Bassett and Taylor are announced as the latest in the distinguished company of supporters, special guests and committee members.

The legendary Ruby Dee will be honored on November 14, 2012, at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, during an excerpt screening of Life’s Essentials with Ruby Dee, from 6:00 to 8:30 pm. In the life story documentary, Ossie Davis & Ruby Dee's legacy lives on in their grandson's quest for the secrets to love, art, and activism.

A prestigious group of celebrities, activists, and community leaders will be on hand for the premiere of a 30 minute excerpt of Life’s Essentials with Ruby Dee, which her grandson, Muta’Ali, is dedicating to her.

Bassett and Taylor will serve as co-hosts of the special birthday celebration. Ambassador Andrew Young, Latonya Jackson, Samuel L. Jackson and Courtney Vance serve as Honorary Chairs.

Recognizing the importance of the film, this screening is a first in a series of Life’s Essentials screenings supported by AARP this fall. The event is made possible through the generous support of Billye and Hank Aaron, AARP, as well as 1199 SEIU, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated, Camille and Bill Cosby and the Carol Sutton Lewis and William M. Lewis, Jr. Charitable Foundation.
