Carl Lumbly has joined the cast of the Disney+ and Marvel Studios superhero series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The show is slated to premiere on Disney+ in August.

Lumbly recently portrayed Dick Hallorann in Doctor Sleep, the sequel to the 1980 psychological horror film The Shining.

Starring Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan in their respective roles as Sam Wilson/Falcon and Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier follows the duo as they team up for a global adventure.

While the specifics of Lumbly’s role have yet to be announced speculation has already arisen that the Alias and Supergirl actor is portraying Isaiah Bradley. For those unfamiliar, Isaiah Bradley was a favorite character who was introduced in the 2003 Marvel comic series Truth: Red, White & Black, where he took on the mantel of Captain America.

According to sources who spoke with /Film, who announced the news, the series will focus on Falcon’s initial refusal to take on the title of Captain America but changes his mind after an encounter with Bradley, who was a test subject along with other Black soldiers in WWII in the super soldier program.
