NBA star Anthony Edwards returned to his hometown of Atlanta over the weekend to celebrate the upcoming release of his first signature shoe with Adidas.

The Minnesota Timberwolves guard visited his childhood home to commemorate the special occasion and present his new AE 1 shoe to his grandfather, one of his biggest inspirations. Edwards also held his AE5 Basketball Camp in Atlanta in the midst of the special celebration to teach the game to young hoopers, Adidas said in a press release.

“This wasn’t just the launch of an innovative basketball shoe; it was a poignant reflection of Edwards’ inspiring journey, his fervent passion, and the magnetic charisma he exudes both on and off the court,” Adidas stated.

Edwards’ family, friends and community members also showed up for the AE 1 Homecoming event as the NBA star celebrated his return. The 22-year-old athlete was joined by a marching band and several community leaders at the homecoming event. Eric Wise, global GM of Adidas Basketball, also attended the celebration to unveil a mural dedicated to the collaboration between Edwards and the global brand.

Atlanta native Lil Baby made a surprise appearance to perform at the homecoming event. Rapper bdifferent also put on a show to honor Edwards’ special day.

“As the face of Adidas Basketball, this remarkable alliance signifies the fusion of Edwards’ audacious spirit, explosive prowess, and limitless versatility with the legacy of a brand that epitomizes excellence,” Adidas stated.

The company plans to release more information about Edwards’ new signature shoe in December.

The NBA All-Star averaged 24.6 points and 4.4 assists this past season. He signed a  five-year, $205.9 million max extension after the season.
