Kevin Durant is the latest NBA start to make a foray into television and film.

His new media company, Thirty Five Media, is partnering with Imagine Television for a scripted, basketball-themed drama series. It is written and directed by Reggie Rock Bythewood.

The series, titled Swagger, “draws inspiration from Durant’s childhood playing Amateur Athletic Union basketball in metropolitan Washington, D.C, where aspiring young athletes and their families find themselves swept up into the youth-sports economy at a startling early age.”

Imagine Entertainment is home to Friday Night Lights and Grazer has wanted to revisit that world. ”

“He created a beautiful world that the Friday Night Lights essence could inhabit. It has the same things. The fragility of how you were as a kid, and how these kids — 12-13 years old — are presented with money, real money, (from athletic apparel brands). It’s a fascinating universe of possibilities,” Grazer told Deadline.

Apple has many straight-to-series projects in the works as it begins to head into the ring with Netflix, Hulu and Amazon. One of these projects is a thriller based on true-crime podcasts called Are You Sleeping, starring Octavia Spencer.
