The Queen of Soul will entertain fans one last time in 2020.
The Aretha Franklin biopic Respect, starring Jennifer Hudson as Franklin (after Franklin handpicked her before her death), is set for theatrical release Aug. 14, 2020. According to Variety, Hudson will be directed by Liesl Tommy from a screenplay by Thelma & Louise scribe and Nashville creator Callie Khouri.
The film will follow Franklin’s rise to fame from her childhood in the church to her life as a soul/R&B star. Straight Outta Compton producer Scott Bernstein and Harvey Mason Jr., a songwriter and producer for both Franklin and Hudson, will produce the film.
