ARRAY ARRAY

Kicking off Women's History Month, ARRAY today announced the launch of its third membership drive, also known as Rebel-A-Thon - a Twitter take-over that celebrates underrepresented filmmakers while raising awareness for the independent film distribution collective founded by celebrated filmmaker Ava DuVernay.

This year's campaign will unite women filmmakers - over 25 directors across five countries - for 12 hours of interaction on the social media platform, using the #ArrayToday hashtag, in support of ARRAY’s mission to amplify the voices of women and people of color filmmakers.

The Twitter gathering will also spotlight ARRAY’s most recent acquisition, Egyptian-American filmmaker Heidi Saman's "Namour."

"We offer this year’s Rebel-A-Thon as an opportunity to highlight the important contributions made by women filmmakers," said ARRAY's Executive Director Tilane Jones. "On March 1 we will stand together for inclusiveness in the industry."

The digital event will be hosted by ARRAY founder and Oscar-nominated director, Ava DuVernay, and includes some of film's most prolific storytellers:

-- Amanda Marsalis ("Echo Park")

-- Amma Asante ("A United Kingdom")

-- Anna Rose Holmer ("The Fits")

-- Ava DuVernay ("Selma")

-- Aurora Guerrero ("Mosquita Y Mari")

-- Ayoka Chenzira ("Alma's Rainbow")

-- Christine Swanson ("All About Us")

-- DeMane Davis ("Lift")

-- Hanelle M. Culpepper ("Within")

-- Heidi Saman ("Namour")

-- Jennifer Brea ("Unrest")

-- Julie Dash ("Daughters of the Dust")

-- Kasi Lemmons ("Eve's Bayou")

-- Kat Candler ("Hellion")

-- Leila Djansi ("Like Cotton Twines")

-- Lucy Walker ("Devil's Playground")

-- Marta Cunningham ("Valentine Road")

-- Millicent Shelton ("Ride")

-- Mira Nair ("Queen of Katwe")

-- Robin Swicord ("Wakefield")

-- Sara Blecher ("Ayanda")

-- Shola Lynch ("Free Angela and All Political Prisoners")

-- Stella Meghie (Everything, Everything)

-- Tanya Hamilton ("Night Catches Us")

-- Tina Gordon Chism ("Peeples")

Since 2010, Array Releasing has distributed 15 feature films by underrepresented filmmakers in theaters and on digital platforms. Commencing March 1, the two-week membership drive is a call to action that helps to sustain those efforts, culminating with the March 15 Netflix debut of "Namour."

The announcement was made by ARRAY Founder, Ava DuVernay.
