I Wanna Dance With Somebody, the upcoming Whitney Houston biopic from Sony’s TriStar, has found its Bobby Brown.

Ashton Sanders will play Brown opposite Naomi Ackie’s Houston. The film is now being directed by Eve’s Bayou and Harriet director Kasi Lemmons after its initial director, The Photograph‘s Kasi Lemmons, departed due to creative differences. She remains an executive producer. The film is written by Anthony McCarten.

Pat Houston, Houston’s sister-in-law, will produce the film for the Houston Estate alongside Davis, McCartin, Denis O’Sullivan, and Larry Mestel of Primary Wave Music. Houston has been the subject of film and television before, however, none of these projects were authorized by the Houston Estate. This means that Houston’s entire catalog of songs will be available for use in the film. Black Label Media has also entered the project as a financier. The company’s Molly Smith and Trent and Thad Luckinbill will produce with Rachel Smith and Seth Spector exexc producing.

Sanders, most known for his role in Oscar winner Moonlight, currently stars in Hulu’s Wu-Tang: An American Saga and was recently seen on the big screen in Judas and the Black Messiah. He will produce and star in the film A More Unbending Battle through his 1237 Production banner.
