It was an eventful Halloween evening for Atlanta fans. Donald Glover surprised everyone with the very first teaser for season 3.

He tweeted ‘happy Halloween’ with a link to gilga.com, which has a video of the teaser. The teaser has a lot of shots out of context, including an alleyway and a sign in Hungarian.

Brian Tyree Henry's Paper Boi is the only character that appears in the teaser.

Glover also sent out a series of tweets about the season, also calling out people who have compared 'Atlanta' to FX's 'Dave.'

The tweets have now been deleted, but in them he said, “I can’t wait til this show is out. I watch the roughs like it ain’t my show.”

The Dave tweets are below:

In 'Atlanta,' two cousins work through the Atlanta music scene in order to better their lives and the lives of their families

Glover portrays Earn Marks, a young manager trying to get his cousin’s career off the ground. Brian Tyree Henry is Alfred “Al” Miles, aka Paper Boi, is a new hot rapper trying to understand the line between real life and street life. Lakeith Stanfield is Darius, Alfred’s right-hand man and visionary and Zazie Beetz is Van, Earn’s best friend and the mother of Earn’s daughter.

Filming was initially delayed due to the cast's hectic schedules.

Seasons 3 and Season 4 were anticipated to be filmed back to back, but COVID-19 threw a wrench in that as well.

“One of the things that’s been kind of an unexpected boon from COVID-19 was that writers have had a lot of time to write,” FX president John Landgraf said at a multi-title FX press day last year, which was attended by S&A. “Donald Glover and his intrepid team of partners have written everything for Season 3 and 4. seasons the intent to shoot them all at one time, essentially back to back.”

Season 3 was filmed mostly in Europe. Season 2 ended with Earn, Paper Boi, and Darius (Stanfield) boarding a flight for an International tour.

Since its debut, the show has catapulted its four stars to massive success, and all four have become established movie stars in their own rights. The first two seasons won five Emmy awards. When the show returns, it will have been off the air for almost three years.

The series is created by Donald Glover and executive produced by Glover, Paul Simms, Dianne McGunigle, Stephen Glover and Hiro Murai. Atlanta is produced by FX Productions.
