Ava DuVernay has set the first animated project under her overall deal with Warner Bros. Television.

She and Warner Bros. Animation are developing an animated family television series based on the Wings of Fire book series from Tui T. Sutherland.

Warner Bros. Animation is producing with DuVernay, who is an executive producer through her ARRAY Filmworks production company. Sutherland, Dan Milano, Christa Starr, Sam Register are also executive producers.

According to the official description Wings of Fire is “an epic adventure set in a world entirely ruled by dragons. Across two continents and 10 tribes, the series explores vicious wars, enduring friendships, and heroic quests that span generations of fascinating dragon characters.”

DuVernay’s latest series, Cherish the Dayis currently airing its first season on OWN and she is in production on the DC comics pilot DMZ at HBO MAX starring Rosario Dawson and Freddy Miyares.
