Ava DuVernay and her Queen Sugar season three showrunner Kat Candler are reteaming for a new series at TNT.

According to Variety, their new show will be a one-hour drama about “a struggling young wife and mother who, in the aftermath of a deadly oil refinery explosion that takes the life of an old friend, will go on to lead one of the biggest labor union strikes in Texas history.”

Both DuVernay and Candler will executive produce, with Candler also doing double duty as a writer for the series. The show will be produced at Warner Horizon Scripted Television, thanks to DuVernay’s overall deal with Warner Bros. Television Group.

This won’t be DuVernay’s only upcoming TV project. Her anthology drama Cherish the Day will come to OWN in 2020. She’s also directing the pilot for DC Comics’ DMZ at HBO Max.
