Looks like the boys still got it! Bad Boys For Life has debuted at No. 1 at the box office. It was expected to top the box office, but it wasn’t expected to perform as well as it did.

Surpassing the $60-$70 million estimates, the film came in with $73.4 million for the four-day Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend. It is the second-best film opening ever for MLK weekend.

The film, which stars Will Smith, Martin Lawrence, Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Charles Melton, Paola Nunez, Kate Del Castillo, Nicky Jam and Joe Pantoliano, had been in development for some time.

From Jerry Bruckheimer, the directors are Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah. Joe Carnahan and Chris Bremner wrote the script.

The film’s huge debut comes as a fourth film in the franchise is now in development. Both Smith and Lawrence are expected to return for the new film. Bremner is set to write the script.
