Over the years, talks about whether there will be a third film in the Bad Boys franchise has languished on the internet for years. The franchise, which started in 1995, hasn’t seen a sequel since 2003. Under the working title, Bad Boys 3, it has been in development for some time now. The latest update came last month when it got a new release date, and Will Smith was officially attached. In May, it also got a new name, Bad Boys for Life.

Now, ’90s funnyman Martin Lawrence has put all our questions as to whether he’ll return to rest.

On Instagram, Lawrence confirmed he would reprise his role as Detective Marcus Burnett. The post depicts Lawrence standing side-by-side with co-star Will Smith with a caption that reads, “It’s official. Bad Boys For Life.”

It will mark the first time Lawrence and Smith have appeared onscreen together since the release of Bad Boys 2 in 2003.

The up-and-coming directorial duo of Adil El Arbi and Bilal Fallah will helm the project, which is set for release on January 17, 2020.

A TV series spinoff starring Gabrielle Union (reprising her character from Bad Boys 2) and Jessica Alba is currently in production for Charter’s Spectrum cable platform.
