Rankin is most known for his role in the 1998 crime drama, Belly, alongside Nas and DMX. He also appeared in the films We Run the Streets and Shottas. Before his death, he announced on Instagram that he was filming a movie in Canada.

As a dancehall and reggae artist, he won a Grammy award for the 1992 single, “Typewriter.” The weekend before his death, he also said that he was working on new music.

The cause of the fatal crash is currently unknown. Rankin is survived by his wife of 30 years, Jewelz Sykez (Julie Sykes). Sykes was also Rankin’s executive assistant.
