The Nest Collective – the Kenya-based creative team behind the critically-acclaimed 2015 queer anthology feature, “Stories of Our Lives” – presents its follow-up to that project, this time a web series titled “Tuko Macho,” created and produced in partnership with Forum Syd.

The series, which partly screened at the Toronto International Film Festival last month, is a crime procedural that tells the tale of an ordinary man who becomes a vigilante to take on the rampant crime and corruption in his city of Nairobi. The Tuko Macho title is also the name of the vigilante organization at the center of the series, led by the lead character, Biko. The cell captures criminals from the streets of Nairobi and puts them on trial before the world’s most powerful public court — the internet, whose anonymous viewership decides whether the offender should live or die. It’s an interactive series that requires participation from the audience, like voting on the fate of criminals.

The series, which tackles an intricate web of moral questions – like is there a crime worthy of punishment by death? – stars Tim King’oo, Njambi Koikai and Ibrahim Muchemi, as well as Paul Ogola, Marrianne Nungo, Lowry Odhiambo, Veronica Waceke, Maggie Karanja, Sam Psenjen and Joe Kinyua.

The entire 12-episode series is online, and you’re encouraged to check it out. First, watch the trailer below, and then check out the first 6 episodes that follow. If you’d like to see the rest of the series after that, head over to The Nest Collective’s website here.
