The potential second spinoff of ABC’s Black-ish has set its cast.

In a throwback episode of Black-ish centered on a teenage Rainbow in the ’80s, relative newcomer Arica Himmel will play a younger version of Tracee Eliss Ross, and Tika Sumpter and Anders Holm will play her parents, Alicia and Paul. Ethan William Childress as Johan and Mykal-Michelle Harris will play Bow’s brother and sister, Johan and Santamonica. Gary Cole will play Paul’s father, and Christina Anthony will be Alicia’s sister. Black-ish fans will know that Anna Deveare Smith and Beau Bridges have portrayed Rainbow’s parents in present-day episodes of the ABC series.

Note that the series does not have an official pilot order that we know of, and it is still in early development.  No major details are known about the plot other than it will focus on a teen Rainbow.

This show would be the second spinoff of the series after the Yara Shahidi-fronted Grown-ish at Freeform (originally developed for ABC). If the prequel does go to series, Black-ish creator Kenya Barris would be an executive producer, but not have much day-to-day involvement with the show creatively as he is now under an overall deal at Netflix.
