'Black Lightning' Ups Fan-Favorite To Series Regular For Season 4

You’ll be seeing a lot more of Grace Choi when Black Lightning returns in February. Shadow and Act has learned that Chantal Thuy has been upped to series regular on The CW’s DC Comics drama.

Based d on the Black Lightning comic character created by Tony Isabella with Trevor von Eeden, Grace Choi has been in a committed onscreen romantic relationship with Anissa Pierce (Nafessa Williams) since the first season. The fan-favorite couple has consequently been through the highs and lows that any superheroes trying to maintain a personal life go through.

This status has been a long time coming for the show, as viewers have wanted Grace and ThunderGrace to be featured more prominently. Plus, the events of the season finale teased the show perhaps exploring a story arc focusing on the Outsiders, a superhero team that Thunder and Grace are a part of in the comics.

It’s also a move that makes sense, considering the show will lose Jordan Calloway as Khalil Payne / Painkiller as a series regular if the Painkiller backdoor pilot moves to series.

“Chantal Thuy embodies the character of Grace Choi,” says Black Lightning executive producer and showrunner Salim Akil. “I am sure our Black Lightning fans knew, especially those who follow the Grace and Anissa relationship storyline, that having Chantal join as a series regular was only a matter of time. I am elated to finally welcome her officially to the team.”

Produced by Berlanti Productions and Akil Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, Black Lightning returns to The CW Mondays at 9/8c on February 8, 2021.
