Black Mirror just got Blacker! Anthony Mackie and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II are slated to join the fifth season of Charlie Brookner’s sci-fi anthology series Black Mirror.
Similar in the vein of The Twilight Zone and Alfred Hitchcock Presents, each episode of Black Mirror explores humanity’s complicated relationship with technology through the lens of different characters. The Netflix show has had many guest stars, such as Daniel Kaluuya and Letitia Wright. However, the word about what roles are storylines Abdul-Mateen and Mackie will be featured in have been kept under wraps.
So far, 2019 has turned out to be a year of riches for Abdul-Mateen. The Yale School of Drama alum is bound to get everyone’s spines chilling when he assumes the lead role for the reboot of the ‘90s horror classic, Candyman, which will be directed by Nia DaCosta and produced by Jordan Peele. Last year, Abdul-Mateen played the role of Black Manta in the DC superhero film Aquaman. He is also featured in Us, Jordan Peele’s highly anticipated follow-up to Get Out.
Just recently, Mackie was featured in The Hate U Give, the George Tillman Jr.-directed adaptation of the bestselling book by Angie Thomas. He’ll star in the lead role for the next season in another Netflix sci-fi series, Altered Carbon. Mackie is also known for his role as Falcon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as well as his supporting turn as Sergeant J. T. Sanborn in The Hurt Locker.
