Black Panther Is Only $18M Away From Passing 'The Avengers' As Highest-Grossing Superhero Film In U.S. History

Last weekend's totals have put Black Panther close to the throne.

Earning $27 million it is only $18 million away from passing  2012's The Avengers as the highest-grossing superhero film of all-time, domestically.

Only time will tell if upcoming challengers, this weekend's Pacific Rim: Uprising, starring John Boyega, or Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One will unseat the Marvel juggernaut for the top spot.

We'll bring more box office predictions and reports as the weekend closes in.

Black Panther stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright and Winston Duke, with Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker and Andy Serkis.

The film is directed by Ryan Coogler and produced by Kevin Feige with Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Nate Moore, Jeffrey Chernov and Stan Lee serving as executive producers. Ryan Coogler & Joe Robert Cole wrote the screenplay.
