Marvel unveiled the release date for the Black Panther sequel during its presentation at Disney’s D23 expo.

Kevin Feige and Ryan Coogler announced the news. The sequel, tentatively known as Black Panther II will hit theaters on May 6, 2022.

The film still remains untitled, but Coogler says the film’s treatment is complete, telling those in attendance that  “I’m working on it trying to give fans something special.”

Black Panther was a worldwide blockbuster hit starring Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, with Angela Bassett, with Forest Whitaker and Andy Serkis. Coogler directed from a script he wrote with Joe Robert Cole.

It was nominated for Best Picture at the 91st Academy Awards.
