'Blood & Water' Star Ama Qamata To Lead Serge Ibaka EP'd Boxing Film 'Fight Like A Girl'

Netflix’s Blood & Water star Ama Qamata is set to portray a woman boxer in the upcoming feature Fight Like A Girl, executive produced by Serge Ibaka.

In the film, which is from writer/director Matthew Leutwyler, Qamata will play “a young Congolese woman forced to work in an illegal mineral mine who manages to escape her captors and find a new life for herself after joining an all-women boxing club in the border city of Goma.”

Qamata will star alongside Nigerian actor Hakeem Kae-Kazim as well as Rwandan actors Malaika Uwamahoro, Kennedy Mazipaka and Arthur Nkusi. The film will also feature Congolese boxing champion Clarck Ntambwe, who is making her acting debut.

'Fight Like A Girl' is inspired by a real-life boxing club.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Leutwyler and producing partner Anton Laines have been following this boxing club for the past two years as part of an upcoming docu-series.

It is reported that several members of the club will play supporting roles in the film.

Congolese NBA star Serge Ibaka of the Milwaukee Bucks will serve as executive producer.

Fight Like a Girl will be the first narrative feature project from Ibaka’s production company Ouenzé Entertainment.

Anton Laines will produce the film through KG28Media. Qamata’s manager Yvette Davis Gayle will also serve as producer, with Colin Gayle executive producing through the Gayles’ Africa Creative Agency company.

As of this writing, there is no word on an official release date for Fight Like A Girl.
