Netflix has acquired the worldwide rights to Italian thriller Born to be Murdered starring John David Washington and Alicia Vikander. It will be released in 2021.

In the film, set in Athens and the Epirus region of Greece, Washington and Vikander play a vacationing couple who “fall trap to a violent conspiracy with tragic consequences.” Boyd Holbrook and Vicky Krieps also star.

Call Me By Your Name director Luca Guadagnino, produced the film, bringing in much of his team behind the Oscar-nominated film that starred Timothée Chalamet and Armie Hammer. Marco Morabito, his frequent collaborator will also produce. Ferdinando Cito Filomarino is the director. He was the second unit director for Guadagnino’s SuspiriaCall Me By Your Name and A Bigger Splash. He made his feature directorial debut with 2015’s Antonia. Kevin Rice wrote the script.

Washington recently starred in Christopher Nolan’s Tenet and can be seen soon in Malcolm & Marie with Zendaya, also set at Netflix.
