HBO has secured the rights to Brit Bennett's novel The Vanishing Half after enduring a frenzied auction between 17 bidders, as reported by Deadline.
According to the site's sources, HBO is expected to pay in the low seven-figure range for the book, which will be turned into a limited series. Bennett will be announced as the series' executive producer.
The limited series, like the book, will focus on the Vignes sisters, southern Black identical twins who run away when they turn 16. The sisters live different lives 10 years later, with one living with her Black daughter in the town she grew up in and had once tried to leave. The other is passing for white and married to a white man who knows nothing of her true racial background. Despite being apart, their lives still intersect and affect one another, especially where their daughters are concerned.
