Call For Entries 2013 Rwanda Film Festival - This Year's Theme 'Our Mothers, Our Heroes'


Call for entries for a relatively young film festival (created in 2005) that continues to grow and flourish, attracting international interest.

Dubbed Hillywood – because Rwanda is known as the land of a thousand hills), the festival was founded by Eric Kabera, also founder and chairperson the country's first film school, and a filmmaker in his own right.

The principal objective of the Rwanda Film Festival is to promote and encourage awareness, appreciation and understanding of the art of cinema in Rwanda. Our mandate is to present the most outstanding films produced in every part of the world. Films are selected on the basis of quality and originality. The Festival also promotes contacts between industry professionals to assist in the development of the Rwandan motion picture industry.

This year’s festival marks a new era for filmmaking in Rwanda. Now celebrating its 9th year, the RFF will announce break through programs, films and partnerships, which will help elevate Rwanda as a destination and source for filmmaking, tourism and new businesses associated with the industry. With a distinct new voice, attention is being paid to filmmaking in Rwanda, and Africa. Indeed, there will be a greater presence of notable members from the African film and entertainment industry.

The program starts off with Hillywood screenings, which showcases movies by gifted Rwandan filmmakers in an effort to strengthen and promote our country's growing film industry. Great African films are added for the Kigali screenings.

Apart from providing a colorful event of film screenings, The Rwanda Film Festival will be a great occasion for filmmakers to interact with international guests and a wide range of special events such as: the Premier Opening Night, Women Panorama, Children Panorama, Youth Red Carpet, a Genocide Memorial Program, Filmmaker Award Ceremony as well as the Closing Night.

The 14-day run festival is proudly presented to our community by the Rwanda Cinema Centre in collaboration with Kwetu Film Institute, the Ministry of Sports and Culture, is projected to draw hundreds of visitors and artists from around the world. Along with our partners, we promote, and help coordinate, visits by independent film enthusiasts, film industry and business leaders who come to see the wonders of Rwanda.
