The family of Cameron Boyce has confirmed the young star’s cause of death, stating that his “tragic passing was due to a seizure as a result of an ongoing medical condition, and that condition was epilepsy.”
“We are still trying to navigate our way through this extremely heart-wrenching time, and continue to ask for privacy so that the family and all who knew and loved him can grieve his loss and make arrangements for his funeral — which in and of itself, is agonizing,” they added in the statement, released Tuesday.
When the news was first announced about his death, the cause of death remained pending, and it was just known that he died in his sleep due to an ongoing medical condition. In a previous statement, the family said, “The world is now undoubtedly without one of its brightest lights, but his spirit will live on through the kindness and compassion of all who knew and loved him. We are utterly heartbroken and ask for privacy during this immensely difficult time as we grieve the loss of our precious son and brother.“
The actor is primarily known for his work on the Disney Channel, including the show Jessie, the Disney XD show Gamer’s Guide to Pretty Much Everything and the Disney Channel original film franchise, Descendants. He has multiple projects that will be released posthumously, Descendants 3 (which will be released in August), the film Runt with Tichina Arnold and the TV series Paradise City. He is also a series regular in the upcoming HBO series, Mrs. Fletcher.
Boyce’s grandmother is civil rights activist Jo Ann Boyce, a member of the Clinton Twelve, the first Black students to go to an integrated school in the South, per Brown v. Board of Education. They integrated their Tennessee high school, which was subject to a series of explosions, almost a year before Little Rock High School was integrated.
