Halle Berry's name is getting some play at Cannes this year, with the second announcement in as many days of a new project she's attached to, that's being shopped at the Cannes market.

Yesterday, I published an item announcing that Berry is attached to star in Turkish-French writer/director Deniz Gamze Ergüven's English-language feature film debut with “Kings" - a story that will be set during the 1992 Los Angeles riots that followed the acquittal of the police officers charged with the excessive beating of Rodney King, which was caught on tape. In the film, Berry will play a “strong, protective” mother living in South Central, Los Angeles, where the riots began in April 1992; no other details on plot are available at this time.

Today brings word that Berry is also on board Lotus Entertainment's Adrian Lyne's "Silence," which Michael Douglas is also on board for.

The Chicago-set story takes place during a snow-covered Christmas in the 1960s, "when for John Carpenter, the holiday spirit is broken by violence throughout the city, and an unlikely stranger named Silence saves his life during a deadly riot."

It's not said, but I assume Berry will play the titular Silence, and Douglas is John Carpenter.

And in a noteworthy move, Will Packer is also now on board as producer via his Will Packer Productions banner, along with director Lyne.

Jim Seibel, Bill Johnson, Ara Keshishian and Angus Sutherland of Lotus are serving as executive producers.

In addition to this project, as well as the one announced yesterday ("Kings"), on Berry’s upcoming slate is the thriller “Kidnapped,” which is currently in post-production, and is set for release later this year; she is also appearing in “Kingsman: The Golden Circle” (a sequel to the 2015 film “Kingsman: The Secret Service”) which is currently filming.
