Cardi B's Surprising Impact On Greta Gerwig's 'Little Women'

During the filming of Little Women, director Greta Gerwig gathered inspiration from an unexpected source–Cardi B.

Gerwig recently revealed on a recent episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that her Vogue January 2020 cover photo with her son was inspired by Cardi B’s own January Vogue cover photo with her one-year-old daughter, Kulture.

“There are four different covers with different women and one of the covers is Cardi B,” she said. “Cardi B is a huge inspiration to me.”

She said that during Little Women‘s production, she kept her pregnancy with her now one-year-old son, Harold, a secret. Her secret led her down a rabbit hole of watching Cardi B’s social media videos.

“I was pregnant and no one knew, and I would go home at night and watch Cardi B’s Instagram videos about her pregnancy–and they were incredible,” she said, as reported by JustJared. “I was like, she’s amazing! She’s making music videos and complaining about things! She’s wonderful!”
