We’re a little late in reporting this, but better late than never.
Carl Anthony Payne II has been cast as Antonio ‘L.A.‘ Reid and Rochelle Aytes has been cast as Perri ‘Pebbles‘ Reid in VH1’s biopic on pop/hip hop/R&B group TLC, which is currently shooting.
In the telepic, Keke Palmer is Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas, Drew Sidora is Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and and Lil’ Mama is playing the late Lisa “Left Eye“ Lopes.
Evan Ross was cast as Dallas Austin, and Donny Boaz will play TLC’s manager Bill Diggins.
I must say that much of the casting for this project just seems very *random* to me. Some odd choices for the various roles. It all reminds me of the casting for the Notorious B.I.G. biopic a few years ago. Anthony Mackie as Tupac? Derek Luke as Puffy?
Ah well… I can’t say that my expectations are high for this TLC film anyway.
Charles Stone III (Drumline, Paid in Full, Mr. 3000) is directing, from a script penned by screenwriter Kate Lanier (What’s Love Got To Do With It, Set it Off, Beauty Shop).
The two surviving members of the group, Chilli and T-Boz, are acting as consultants and executive producers for the movie.
Also executive producing are the real Bill Diggins, as well as Maggie Malina, Jeff Olde, Jill Holmes and Alexander A. Motlagh.
