nullCatching up on casting news announced this week that we haven’t mentioned on this site…

First, J. August Richards has joined Bravo’s first scripted series, “Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce,” which is based on the best-selling series of books by Vicki Iovine, which follows Abby, a self-help book author who hides the fact that she’s separated from her husband, as she starts to navigate her life as a single woman in her early 40s in Los Angeles. She finds herself seeking advice from her divorced friends instead of her married ones, which leads to some unexpected and life-changing experiences. Richards will play a character named Ford, a married gay man who is described as a trend aficionado.

Hannibal Buress will join Kevin Hart, Bobby Moynihan, Ellie Kemper, Lake Bell, Louis C.K., and Eric Stonestreet in an “Untitled Universal Pictures Animated Pets” project, which follows a pampered terrier, voiced by C.K., who gets lost on the streets of New York with his unwelcome new housemate, a sloppy mongrel. Together, the two must thwart the plans of the evil rabbit Snowball, and try to find their way back home.

Wendell Pierce has signed up to play Frank Legrand, Nicolas Cage’s Chief of Staff in the political drama “The Runner,” in which Cage stars as Colin Price, an idealistic but flawed New Orleans Congressman who is forced to confront his dysfunctional life after his career is destroyed in a sex scandal. Austin Stark is writing and directing the film, which also co-stars Connie Nielsen as Price’s wife Deborah, a high powered attorney with her own political ambitions, while Peter Fonda has been cast as his father, a former mayor of New Orleans.

Cory Hardrict will star in director Nic Mathieu’s sci-fi actioner “Spectral,” which follows a special ops team that is sent in to fight evil spectral beings who have taken over New York. Hardrict joins James Badge Dale in the film.

David Harewood has booked a role in the Weinstein Company drama “Tulip Fever” for director Justin Chadwick. He will play Prater, Amsterdam’s foremost tulip grower/dealer, in the film about a 17th century Dutch woman who begins an affair with an artist hired to paint her portrait.

Hampton Fluker will guest star (with the option to become a series regular) in Episode 307 of TNT‘s drama series “Major Crimes,” a backdoor pilot for a potential spinoff series from “The Closer.” Fluker will play alpha male Jamey Perez, an intelligent, determined and ambitious third-generation LAPD officer who wants to spend his time in SWAT for the best purposes possible.

Delroy Lindo has joined the cast of the needless remake of “Point Break,” which Edgar Ramirez and Luke Bracey are starring in the remake, which will center on a young FBI agent named Utah (Bracey) who goes undercover to stop an organized gang of criminals who are pulling off heists all over the world. Lindo will play Utah’s FBI superior.

Harold Perrineau and Kellita Smith will be part of an ensemble cast for Syfy’s upcoming “Z Nation,” an all-new zombie series set to debut in the fall. From production company The Asylum (“Sharknado”), the 13-episode action-horror series depicts the epic struggle to save humanity after a zombie apocalypse. Tom Everett Scott, DJ Qualls, and Michael Welch also star in the drama, currently in production in Spokane, WA. Perrineau will play Hammond, the leader of the group headed west; Smith will play Addy a disparate wanderer drawn to the team to survive.

So… black actors are working folks!

That’s all for now…
